Duplex Company Houses With Fences, 1930

This 1930 photo shows a group of identical duplex or double company houses. Usually two families occupied the partitioned home. Note the fences. Although the coal company eventually discontinued painting and maintaining the fences, for a while residents continued to paint and care for them.
