Response from Governor Pinchot to District 2 Union President Concerning Several Complaints of Miners,  February 26, 1931

Gifford Pinchot was Governor of Pennsylvania from 1923 to 1927 and from 1931 to 1935.  Short weights at  tipples and unfair practices at company stores were concerns of McIntyre miners as well as those in other coal mining towns. Pinchot's letter is somewhat sympathetic. In the last paragraph he acknowledges what he terms the "existing deplorable situation" and indicates that the coal industry will be will investigated.
