McIntyre Home Talent Play, 1929

Most of the town residents in this 1929 amateur play production were native-born English speakers. During this period, most of the mine supervisors were native-born Anglo-Americans.

Movies, dances, picnics, basketball, ethnic games, such as morra, an Italian hand game of strategy played by two people for points, were forms of entertainment enjoyed by town residents. Baseball was a very important leisure time activity in McIntyre and other coal mining towns. Leagues were sponsored and supported by the Coal Company. Local bars and speakeasies were patronized by town residents and others from nearby areas.
