Class, 1931
From
1911 through the 1930s, a number of pieces of school legislation was passed
which included provisions dealing with compulsory attendance, teacher training
and wages, and length of the school year. Teacher salaries were generally low
during this period. The average yearly salary for all teachers in the state
was $1,390 in the mid-1920s. In 1930, the average yearly cost of educating each
student in Indiana County was $55.82.
