Telegram from McIntyre Local Union 3548 Concerning 
Imprisonment of John L. Lewis

This telegram testifies to the popularity and solidarity that the miners felt for their union and for John L. Lewis. Lewis was president of the United Mine Workers of America from 1920 to 1960. In many homes of mining families his photo had a place of honor on the living room wall, frequently next to a photo of Jesus Christ and the president of the United States.
