Partial Page from McIntyre Company Store Ledger
This partial page, from a 1940s ledger of the McIntyre company store lists some of the various vendors with which the store did business. Although most of the companies were in Pennsylvania, others were from Wisconsin, Maryland, Ohio, New York, and California. Some of the products that were ordered such as pineapple, gloves, suspenders, and horseradish can be inferred by the names of the companies.
Although residents complained of the high prices of company store goods, many agreed that it carried a variety of quality goods including food, furniture, clothing, and other items. Miners also purchased mining equipment and supplies from the company store.
