Map of Jacksonville Coal Fields

This map shows McIntyre (center), in proximity to other coal mining towns in Young Township that were developed by the Rochester and Pittsburgh Coal Company in an area known as the "Jacksonville Coal Fields." Note the many rail lines, important for transporting coal, crisscrossing the township.

Some of the other towns developed by the Coal Company include Coal Run, Iselin, and the infamous Whiskey Run. This coal town town had a reputation for its lawless with approximately two dozen unsolved murders by the mid-1920s.
