Court Injunction Issued Against Union, July 17, 1931
A day after
miners held their rally and parade in
McIntyre on July 16, 1931, an injunction was requested by the Rochester and Pittsburgh Coal
Company. The injunction was granted by Judge Langham of Indiana and went into effect on
July 20. The judge was known for his anti-union and pro-coal sentiments. In the coming years the union
would grow in influence under the leadership
of John L. Lewis, President of the United Mine Workers of America.
