Tipple Fire, 1948
The
McIntyre tipple fire began in the morning of September 12, 1948, and caused
about $250,000 in damage. The fire happened while workmen were welding and repairing
the flight conveyor in the tipple. A spark from a welding torch came into contact
with equipment and started the blaze which spread rapidly.
