Ladies Dresses Advertisement, 1931
This is part of a department store ad for ladies "summer
frocks" which were guaranteed to be "sun-fast" and "tub-fast."
Since clothing was washed by hand and dried outside on a clothesline, this information was
important to the consumer of the day. Long dresses and short hair were popular
fashion statements for women during this period.
The company store in McIntyre sold similar fashions. However, some residents complained
that prices were higher at the company store than in stores in Indiana,
Pennsylvania, the county seat.
