Several coal companies are mentioned in the last paragraph of this
page: Indiana Coal Company, Kent Coal Company, and Jefferson and Clearfield County Coal
and Iron Company, the "J&CC&ICO." These and other coal companies were
frequently intertwined, having one board of directors sit as the board of directors
of another company. Land purchased under the name of one company was frequently
sold to another company in which the first company had financial interests. The last
paragraph also mentions the improvements on the Belle Jewell farmland that was purchased by
the Coal Company. Part of McIntyre was built upon this property. Read Page 3
to find out the names of some families who sold their land to the Coal Company
and how much the Coal Company was willing to pay for future land purchases in
the area.
