Union Hall, Local 3548, District 2, of the UMWA
Miners in McIntyre and in other nearby towns belonged
to District 2, Local 3548 of the United Mine Workers of
America (UMWA). This is a current photo of the office which is located
several miles outside of McIntyre. The granite monument, dedicated to the seven miners who
died in the mine explosion of June 30, 1941 stands in front of the building. The
memorial was once located in front of the old Union Hall in
McIntyre and was originally dedicated several years after the accident.
